Program Overview
Welcome to Kipepeo Pathways’ Community Enterprise & Digital Skills program — where your hands-on contribution helps local communities build sustainable businesses and digital capabilities that generate long-term income and independence.
Community Enterprise & Digital Skills is one of our flagship volunteering experiences. Together with local communities across Kenya, we co-design and implement practical training and enterprise development projects that strengthen local economies, improve digital literacy, and create new revenue streams for families and youth.
Our Promise:
- Community co-owned: Every enterprise project is jointly designed, implemented, and owned by the host community (with full veto rights).
- Measurable impact: We track and report 20–30% average community income uplift through direct revenue share + new or strengthened micro-enterprises.
- Ethical & sustainable: Aligned with ETI/SMETA, Fairtrade, and international best practices in community enterprise development.
- Skill-matched & professional: Volunteers receive orientation and contribute meaningfully while gaining real-world experience in social entrepreneurship and digital empowerment.
Primary Objectives
- Build the capacity of local communities to develop and manage viable small enterprises.
- Increase digital literacy and practical technology skills for income generation.
- Provide volunteers with hands-on experience in community enterprise development and digital skills training.
Measurable Community Impact (tracked and reported post-program)
- Establishment or strengthening of community-based enterprises (crafts, eco-products, tourism services, small-scale processing).
- Digital skills workshops reaching 50–150 community members (smartphone use, social media marketing, mobile money, basic bookkeeping).
- Creation of new income sources and improved market access.
- Direct economic benefit: 10–15% revenue share from your trip fee + volunteer labor converted into enterprise assets and training tools.
- Long-term outcome: Increased household income, youth employment, and reduced rural-urban migration.
